Dear Friends.

A very Happy New Year to all of you from all of us. It has been a long time since we got in touch. Sorry! Let us acquaint you with all that has happened during all this time.

Last year we arranged a Panel Discussion on "Are The Values We Imbibe In School Relevant?" You can imagine how lively the discussion was and the Panel of eminent personalities dealt very expertly and thoroughly [with ample input from the audience] with this provocative topic. The lively panelists were Prof. Krishna Sen, Mrs. Anjum Katyal, Dr. Supriya Choudhury, and Justice Indira Bandopadhya. The efficient moderator was Ms. Oindrilla Dutt. All past pupils of Loreto House please note!

In November 2004, Zarine Chowdhury held a very enjoyable programme with the students of class VI of Loreto House, for the members of the Alumnae. The members could appreciate how their sponsorship of Speech and Drama classes conducted by Zarine, were so worthwhile.

The annual treat for the disadvantaged children of the "Roof School " is regularly held every year after the annual Christmas Bazar. The Loreto nuns run this school for the street children and have now added a Night Shelter as well. The alumnae help towards this noble cause by donating one regular teacher's salary and also by arranging this annual treat. There are about 200 children now. As usual this event was very enjoyable. The children put up a variety entertainment and went home with gifts and food.

The Christmas Bazaar is always the highlight of the year. It means a great deal of hard work and relentless effort by the Executive Committee. A few volunteers come forward, and are a great help, God bless them, but by and large the committee has to struggle. So much so that one year we could not hold this event at all. Surprisingly so many people enquired and requested that the Bazaar should be held that we resumed this event. You see this Bazaar has grown into a BIG thing, with food stall and games stalls and music stalls etc. and really huge crowds attend. The last bazaar on the 18th December 2004 was no exception and it was a resounding success.

Another very enjoyable annual feature is our reunion. Every Year we settle on a theme, like 'Springtime Gay" [a line from our school chorus] or " Heart to Heart" [held on Valentines Day] and this year we have "Friendship Forever ". In keeping with the theme we try to create relevant atmosphere and give out wacky tokens like flowers, or heart shaped eye masks/heart shaped face patches etc. This year there will be friendship bands. There are always games, quizzes, Housie etc and we have even had the Roof School kids put up a show for us. It is great to meet our teachers and nuns and past pupils. Year after Year the tea is provided by Flury's, courtesy of the Paul family of Park Hotel, for which we are ever grateful. This year the reunion is on the 19th.February at Loreto House. Do come if you are in town.
We continue to work for our Loreto House in whatever way we can. The funds raised through our events go towards various projects like renovation of the school hall, salary of the roof schoolteacher, silver medals for winners of our challenge cup, and other small maintenance expenses. By now all the Loreto schools have received scholarships amounting to 10 years of schooling per child, from Class I to Class X
