Newsletter
February 2006 |
|
Hello everybody
This newsletter is long overdue, for which we are truly sorry.
However, we hope to offer you news covering the year the whole year 2005 to make up for our tardiness.
On the 15th of May 2004 we held our AGM, and Sr. Ursula, the Principal of Loreto House School welcomed everyone, and gave us all, warm praise for our involvement with our dear old school.
The Christmas Bazaar held on the 18th December 2004 was as usual a huge success. This bazaar helps us to raise funds for all our commitments. We wish to thank all our supporters and well wishers who helped us with generous gifts and hampers for prizes and also the Loreto students who volunteer as always to help us at the various stalls. We always show our appreciation to our wonderful helpers with small gifts and a ' Thank You' party.
Like every year, we held a Christmas party for the children of the roof School on the 19th January 2005.

Past pupils will be surprised by the changes up on the terrace which used be used for games/drill/project work
etc.etc. in the old days. Now it has become a smart area, with windows, fans, lights and bathrooms. It is a hive of activity with the children of the Free School and the shelter occupying it. It is heartening to know that we, of the alumnae have contributed towards it.
Our ongoing commitments include the salary for the teachers of the roof school, the presentation of the Rolling Trophy and Silver Medal for academic excellence to the topper in the ICSE exams.
We are lucky to engage Mrs. Zarine Choudhury for speech and drama classes for the students of Class 6. The style and deportment that they acquire at this impressionable age, stays with them always.
Last year we made a donation of Rs. 20,000 the victims of the Tsunami disaster. We also managed to donate
Rs. 5,000 towards a heart operation for a needy person.
At last we have completed the renovation of the Concert Hall. The lights/sound system is now functional. The special generator which was installed to operate the Exhausts and the gadgets to operate scene changes are all working. We have organized an annual maintenance service to look after all the mechanical items.
The Alumnae reunion was held on the 19th February 2005. The theme was 'Friendship Forever" and everyone got friendship bands to wear or share. As always we must thank the Paul family for donating a delicious 'Tea' catered by Flury's There were generous prizes for the winners of the quiz and games.
On the 14th of May 2005 we held our AGM.
Another great event was the fabulous dinner held at the Saturday Club on the 9th September. The Loreto girls turned out in full force along with family and friends. The highlight of the evening was, that Anjum Katyal [nee Ahmad] sang with Jeffry Menezes on the synthesizer. Needless to say... the party rocked!!!
We bade farwell to Sr. Ursula, who had given us so much support, and welcomed Sr. Mercy, the new principal, who delighted us by becoming an equally supportive and enthusiastic member.
Like every year, we held a Christmas party for the children of the roof School on the 3rd December 2005. As always the children put up a most entertain show for us. They enjoyed the food and gifts we distributed. We wish to offer our thanks to the dedicated volunteers, the ladies who are fully involved in this roof school and who are giving these children so much time and care. This school is now 175 strong. There is a night shelter also up on the roof for 100 homeless children, who live there and are looked after by volunteers and the Loreto Nuns.
The class of 1980 held a reunion for their 25th Anniversary. They organized it splendidly and past pupils arrived from far and wide. Old teachers were invited and welcomed.
We hear that the class of 1981is planning something big for their 25th Anniversary too, this year. Those of you, who were in this class, do keep a look out for a notice especially for you at the bottom of this newsletter.
We would love the alumnae members who live in Calcutta to contact us and offer ideas and help for future
programmes.
For those of you who are far far away...please keep in touch.
With fondest regards from all of us..........
